Most genital herpes are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Herpes stays in the body permanently as there is no cure developed at this time. However, herpes can be controlled with medical remedies and often becomes less painful
Cause
Genital herpes is usually contracted through sexual intercourse or oral sex.
Prevention/Solution
The safest way to protect yourself from herpes and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) is to abstain from sex or be in a committed monogamous relationship. Otherwise, the best but not guaranteed protection is proper condom use.
Blisters
The most common symptom of herpes type 2 is blisters on the genitals, anus, buttocks or thighs. These blisters usually break into open, painful sores that may or may not develop a crust.
Flu-Like Symptoms
Not every person who contracts herpes type 2 will suffer flu-like symptoms, but if it does happen, it would be within 2 weeks of contracting this sexually transmitted disease. Fever and swollen glands, especially accompanied by blisters and sores, are signs of herpes type 2.
Outbreaks
The first year of having herpes type 2 symptoms is usually the worst, with as many as four to five outbreaks. However, over time the frequency and intensity of the herpes outbreaks tends to weaken, though the disease will always be able to be transmitted to others, according to the CDC (see Resources below).
