The plantar area is located on the bottom of the foot on the inside edge. Repetitive running and jumping can cause the plantar fascia to become inflamed and be very painful. The condition that develops as a result of this is called plantar fasciitis. When this happens, there are various ways to cure it that are medical and non-medical.
Steroids
A type of medicinal steroids called corticosteroids is either injected into the foot or used in a topical solution.
Orthotics
When weight is not being displaced properly during activities, plantar fasciitis can become exacerbated. To help distribute pressure on the feet, orthotics are worn.
Splints
Placing splints on the feet and calves while sleeping can help keep the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia in a constant stretched position. These are fitted to your size.
Therapy
Exercises and stretches can also be done to help plantar fasciitis. Some of these include towel stretches, foam rolling and wall arch stretches.
Surgery
In the most extreme of cases of plantar fasciitis, surgery can be done where the plantar fascia is actually detached from the bone of the heel.
Rest
Rest is also an option with plantar fasciitis. This is done by not putting weight on the affected foot. Walking with crutches can make more achievable.
