Do A Hot Water Bottle Cleanse

Hot applications to the abdomen can help stimulate detoxification of the liver.

Hot water bottles are used as a physical application to the upper abdomen in order to stimulate better cleansing of toxins, stones and bile from the liver. While traditional European medicine dictates using the hot water bottle in conjunction with a cloth soaked in castor oil, using a hot water bottle on its own is enough to support gallbladder and liver detoxification.

Instructions

1. Take a water bottle and fill it with boiled water. Tap water is fine for the purposes of this cleanse. The water bottle will lose its heat quickly while being used, so keep a fresh jug of water boiled and ready for use before applying the hot water bottle.

2. Wrap the hot water bottle in a thick cloth that has been soaked with castor oil or simply water. In addition to allowing beneficial oils to soak into the heated skin, a cloth will protect your skin from burning against the hot water bottle. Never go to sleep while using this application. If the hot water bottle comes into direct contact with skin for any period of time, burns may result.

3. Allow the hot water bottle to remain for 30 to 60 minutes. During this period replace the boiled water in the hot water bottle if it begins to cool.

4. Repeat the process every day for three days for optimal results, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. During this period drink plenty of water, increase dietary fiber with vegetables and whole grains and talk with your health care professional if you are considering performing any other kind of cleanse, such as an olive oil and lemon cleanse.

5. If you have any pre-existing liver or gall bladder problems, speak with your health care provider before attempting this cleanse. Using hot applications on the abdomen may cause the bile ducts to dilate, making it easier to pass stones from the gall bladder. While this is possibly beneficial, a gall bladder stone becoming lodged or stuck in the bile duct can cause serious injury.
