Himalayan Salt Health Benefits

Salt is on nearly every table in restaurants and in homes, but how much do we know about the effect table salt has on our bodies or the alternatives that are available? Himalayan Salt is reputed to be all natural, and free of harsh chemicals and additives. It can be used to add flavor to your food, as an additive to skin-care products or as homeopathic treatment.

Effects of Table Salt

Table salt (mainly sodium chloride) has been linked to diseases such as high blood pressure and heart disease. What we now think of as salt is actually a product that has been chemically cleansed with all minerals and elements removed in the process. Your body requires salt to live, but most people consume far more than needed, which taxes the organs in their effort to excrete the additional salt from our systems, leading to bloating and cellular damage.

Himalayan Salt

Eliminating salt from your diet is not the answer. Exploring more natural alternatives can go a long way to helping us retain a balance. Himalayan Salt is composed of natural elements such as nitrogen, beryllium, boron, magnesium, silver, palladium, iodine, rubidium and nickel--all elements that our bodies need for proper functioning. Salt is one of the essential elements for electrical impulses and general conductivity within the body.

Salt as Medicine

Salt has long been used in homeopathic medicine and has been used for centuries to combat symptoms and illnesses. Himalayan Salt has been used as part of dental hygiene to prevent bleeding gums and bad breath, as an ear infection remedy, to lessen acne, combat foot fungus, alleviate psoriasis, soothe sore throats, lessen headaches and neck pain and balance the body's natural pH. Natural crystal salt can now be found in many lotions, bath salts and skin care products.

Prepare Your Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Salt is generally used to make brine called sole (so-lay), which is a solution of crystal salt and water. The idea behind the solution is to create a balanced ionic reaction that achieves optimal results. To make a sole, take a glass and fill it with several crystal salts. Fill the glass with spring water and allow the crystals to dissolve. Once the crystals dissolve, add a few more until the water is saturated.

Using Salt for Good Health

Each morning, take 1 teaspoon on an empty stomach, followed by 250ml of spring water. Use the sole as a mouthwash or rinse, place a few drops in the ear for an ear infection, soak your feet in the sole to get rid of foot fungus and use topically for skins conditions such as psoriasis or irritations. You can also use the salts as a scrub.
