Bitter Melon Cure For Gout

Bitter melon is a fruit that has been shown to help stabilize blood sugar in diabetics and might possibly have uses for HIV and cancer too. In Ayurveda, or Indian medicine, bitter melon is used to treat gout, a painful joint inflammation. You can either take capsules, or make your own fresh juice and begin treatment as soon as you have a gout flare-up.

Bitter Melon Capsules

Bitter melon capsules are also sometimes called bitter gourd capsules. They are mainly sold in 500 mg capsules. For gout, one to two grams are recommended. You must take two capsules in the morning and, if it's well tolerated, possibly two more in the afternoon to treat gout. Ask your physician before taking any supplement to see if it will affect any of your current conditions or medications.

Bitter Melon Fruit Juice

Bitter melon is a fruit grown on a vine that looks like a bright green, warty cucumber. Employed mainly in Asian and South American cooking, bitter melon does indeed taste bitter. Look for it at Asian markets in the spring and summer.

To drink bitter melon juice as a gout cure, simply juice one or two of the melons in a blender or processor and drink twice a day every day until the gout goes away. This is very bitter, so be prepared. Cooking it in a dish dilutes the effect, so stick with the pure fresh juice for results.

Warnings

Bitter melon is used as an abortive stimulant in some countries because it can cause uterine contractions. Therefore, do not use bitter melon if you are pregnant.

It can also cause reactions with certain diabetes medications. Always check with your doctor before taking bitter melon supplements.
