Prepare For Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery has become so commonplace over the last decade that most people don’t think twice about going under the knife in the name of beauty. What many people fail to recognize, however, is that plastic surgery is still surgery and that they will need to plan in advance in order to recover faster and without complications. By preparing their homes, their lives and themselves for surgery, patients can make the whole experience much less distressing.

Instructions

1. Ask your doctor for a list of recommendations specific to the type of surgery you will be subjected to. People who will have a tummy tuck, for example, will be asked to lose a certain amount of weight. People who are having breast augmentation may have to stop taking hormonal drugs, including birth control pills, which can cause inflammation of the breast tissue.

2. Stop alcohol and cigarette consumption. This will clear up your system of toxins and facilitate the healing process after the surgery. You should also avoid aspirin and any other drugs that can increase the chances of bleeding for at least two weeks before your surgery.

3. Get your home ready. If you are having extensive surgery, chances are you will be in pain and will require bed rest. Filling your pain prescriptions in advance, making sure you have clean linens and finding somebody to stop by and walk your dog will all reduce your stress once you are back home from surgery.

4. Stock your fridge. The last thing you want to have to worry about after plastic surgery is finding something to eat. Chances are you won’t want to call delivery either, because it entails getting up and confronting strangers at the door. Instead, cook and freeze food in advance, and make sure you have plenty of drinks available. Soft foods such as yogurt, soups and cottage cheese are especially good during recovery.

5. Stay away from the sun. This is especially important if you are having some kind of skin procedure, but it can also help speed up your recovery and help you avoid staining of the scars.

6. Plan on how you will get home from the clinic. A taxi is usually not a good option, as you will be in pain and probably numb by the drugs in your system. Arranging for somebody to pick you up is the best option, especially if that person can also help you get in and get settled.
