Dehydration occurs when a person doesn't take in enough fluids. This can make someone very ill if not remedied quickly. Urine Output


Urine output is almost immediately affected by dehydration. As a result of not getting enough fluid intake the body will produce less urine. Chills

The person may begin to shiver, which is usually accompanied by pale skin and feeling cold.


Dry Skin








Dehydration can also cause someone's skin to become dry and flaky, and in some extreme circumstances it can make someone's skin crack. When dehydration occurs the skin's hydration becomes diminished and the skin becomes less resilient. To assess this symptom, pinch your skin and see how long it takes to return to normal. If it snaps back into place, you are adequately hydrated. If it "oozes" back into place, you may be dehydrated.


Dry Mouth


Dehydration can make the mouth very dry. This is a condition known as dry mouth (the scientific name is xerostomia). Some other common names for dry mouth are pasties or cotton-mouth. It occurs when there's a lack of saliva. Dehydration can also cause sticky saliva. Sometimes dry mouth can even cause the mucus membranes to die. Remedies include drinking water or administering dry mouth-relieving products such as Biotene or Orajel.


Fatigue or Weakness


Dehydration can also cause physical or mental fatigue. When someone doesn't get enough fluids into their system they may experience muscle weakness or somnolence (decreased wakefulness). Someone who is dehydrated may also find themselves being confused a lot more than normal.
