Asthma Attack Symptoms

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that both narrows and inflames the airways. More than seventeen million people in the United States are afflicted with asthma. Asthma can bring upon wheezing (a whistle sound that occurs during breathing), shortness of breath, feeling tightness in the chest and excessive coughing. A lot of people experience asthma attack symptoms either very early in the morning or late at night.

Significance

Generically, when you ask someone what symptoms are the most prevalent and common when it comes to asthma attacks, you will hear about coughing, wheezing, tightness of the chest and shortness of breath. Asthma attacks usually occur during sleep hours, whether it's really early in the morning or really late at night.

Theories/Speculation

There are a lot of triggers that can bring upon asthma symptoms and asthma attacks. Some of the causes for asthma symptoms include changes in weather, respiratory infections, medicine, foods, stress or anxiety, acid reflux disease, strong smells or tobacco smoke, allergens like dander, viruses, sinus infections, working out, mold, dust mites and various others.

Warning

The first warning signs that would indicate whether you or someone else has asthma are symptoms such as trouble breathing, symptoms that get worse in the morning or at night, a feeling of tightness in the chest, wheezing, coughing, or symptoms that are brought upon by things such as exercise, cold air or being around allergens like animal dander.

Considerations

In more severe cases of asthma, people will have extremely persistent, lingering coughing and have a difficult time speaking and forming complete words and sentences. The lips might have a blue tint and the chest will feel tight and closed up. People might experience agitation, restlessness, lack of concentration and confused, dazed feelings.

Types

There are also some more unusual and rare types of asthma attack symptoms. Some of these include dry, persistent coughing, fast breathing, sighing, chronic coughing without any wheezing, having a hard time falling and staying asleep, inability to exercise, tiredness and fatigue and anxiety.
