Train To Become A Yoga Instructor

Becoming a yoga instructor takes mental and physical training.

A person who wants to become a yoga instructor has to train in two different ways. First, there is educational training to learn become a yoga instructor. Second, there is physical training a yoga instructor would put their body through in order to be prepared to be a yoga instructor. Learning and practicing yoga methods goes hand in hand when a person is looking to teach yoga to others.

Instructions

Physical Training

1. Breathe. It is one of the simplest tenants of yoga but breathing and breathing patterns are imperative to the understanding of the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga. Breathing in deeply can take practice and patience and if the instructor does not have a core knowledge of the breathing they will not be able to hold a class effectively. The yoga instructor must guide their students through breathing exercises while performing the postures.

2. Learn and practice postures every day. The yoga instructor is expected to know the yoga postures they are teaching to students. To perfect the postures the instructor must practice every day. This will also further help the instructor with balance and understanding the human physiology that goes with each posture.

3. Perform strength training. The yoga instructor should be in peak performance. By weight training and performing other strength training exercises it allows the instructor to attempt more strength oriented poses. Yoga is also an intensive workout especially when done for several hours a day, as with an instructor. Strength training will allow the instructor to build endurance and strength to maintain the poses after the most vigorous days.

Educational Training

4. Learn about yoga. Having the basics of yoga history and theory is imperative to success as a yoga instructor. Students want to know the instructor is knowledgeable about the topic they are learning and many people who practice yoga incorporate it into their spirituality and meditation.

5. Learn from a certified trainer. There's always more to know as an instructor. By learning from a certified trainer the person training to become a yoga instructor will be more prepared for the physical, spiritual and administrative demands of the position. Yoga instructors often do more than simply teach the physical exercises to a group of people. If the instructor owns and runs their own studio, they are also expected to hire staff and maintain the building. By learning from a certified teacher the person training will be more aware of what is expected.

6. Take certification classes. Becoming a certified yoga instructor is a little different and requires additional classes and tests. Certified instructors are able to charge a slightly higher rate and are considered to be more knowledgeable. Yoga Alliance is one group that certifies yoga instructors and seeks to keep high quality instructors.
