Shiitakes are a flavorful addition to any sauce.
Shiitake mushroom sauce is standard sauce for use with beef. It also pairs well with chicken and fish. The method of making the sauce is the same, regardless of the protein with which it is paired. Once you've got the meat prepared and cooking, turn to this simple sauce to finish off the dish. The shiitake mushrooms impart a smoky flavor, making the final dish taste rich and deeply seasoned.
Instructions
1. Dice the onion and mince the garlic clove. Slice the mushrooms and set aside.
2. Place a medium saute pan over medium to low heat and coat with nonstick cooking spray. Add the onion and saute for three minutes. Add the garlic and cook for one more minute.
3. Add the butter. Once the butter is melted, add the flour. Stir until slightly baked, about two minutes. Slowly stir in the beef stock. Break up any clumps that form.
4. Add the sliced mushrooms and season with salt and pepper to taste. Saute for four minutes.
5. Serve over the cooked chicken, fish or beef.
