Make Orange Soap

You can make your own orange soap at home.

Making your own household products can be very rewarding. One item that you can make simply and fairly cheaply is orange soap. Some store-bought soaps can be harsh and irritating to the skin. You can make a type of orange soap that is gentle and moisturizing in its composition. This soap also makes an excellent gift for family and friends.

Instructions

1. Purchase several bars of glycerin soap, which you can find at many craft stores or bath stores.

2. Place one bar of soap in a glass microwave-safe measuring cup.

3. Heat the soap on medium heat for 30 seconds. Check to see whether it is melted. If not, heat for additional 10-second increments. You will need two to three cups of melted soap, so you may need to add multiple bars, depending on how much the melting process yields.

4. Pour the soap into a glass or metal mixing bowl.

5. Add one ounce of castor oil, one ounce of shea butter, two ounces of ground oatmeal, and one teaspoon of beeswax. Add these ingredients one by one, stirring the mixture with a wooden spoon after each addition.

6. Drop five to 10 drops of orange essential oil into the mixture and stir well. You can also add one or two drops of orange food coloring if you want the soap to have an orange color.

7. Pour the mixture into one or more soap molds, which you can also purchase at many craft stores or from online vendors. Allow the soap to set overnight.

8. Remove the soap from the mold and gently scrape off any rough edges with a blunt knife.

9. Store the soap in an airtight container or in plastic wrap if you are not going to use it right away.
