Treat Hand Tendonitis

Hand tendonitis, an often painful condition in which the tendons of the hand swell, is a common occurrence because the hands can frequently be overworked and abused. Recovery from this condition can be achieved through natural rest and medication.

Instructions

1. Get rest. To recover from tendonitis, the affected hand should be rested to avoid further aggravating the condition. If only one hand is affected, use your other hand to take care of daily tasks.

2. Wear a hand support brace. To further relieve the affected hand and prevent further irritation of the condition, wear a brace provided by your doctor. A proper brace will allow the tendons of the hand to rest properly.

3. Ice the hand. Applying ice to the hand suffering from tendonitis will help to cool the inflamed tendon and also allow blood to more easily circulate around the swelling.

4. Take anti-inflammatory medication regularly. Taking anti-inflammatory medication as directed by your doctor will reduce swelling of the tendon and also ease pain.

5. Strengthen the hand. Perform rehabilitation exercises provided to you by your doctor. Simple hand-strengthening exercises will increase the mobility of your hand and allow for an easy transition back to regular activity.
