Juniper berries have a long history and a number of uses. There are recipes for wild game, wine, medicine and a variety of tinctures. It has also been used to make an herbal salve, or oil, that has been long thought to have an aromatic calming effect.
Instructions
1. Place the juniper berries and oil in a glass jar. Allow them to sit for two weeks, shaking once every day. By the end, you should have an aromatic oil.
2. Place the wax in another jar and melt it in the microwave, one minute at a time, at a low power until it is fully liquid. While the wax is in the microwave, place the cheese cloth over the jar, with the rubber band holding it in place. Drain the oil into the saucepan and heat until it is just too warm to touch.
3. Pour the hot oil into the liquid wax, stirring slowly. As the mixture cools, pull a bit out of the jar with your finger, testing its consistency. If it is not soft and malleable, heat the jar in the microwave for another minute and add a few tablespoons of oil. Repeat this until the wax and oil mixture is the consistency you want.
