Make Homemade Bath Salts For Giftgiving

A jar of homemade bath salts is a personalized, inexpensive gift.

Pamper the people on your gift list, with the makings for a soothing bath. Homemade bath salts brings relaxation to reality. Mix a large batch and divide it into attractive jars. Customize the scent and color to the recipient, if you like.

Instructions

1. Choose your salt. To ease body aches and pains, add Epsom salts. To give the water a soft, silky feeling, use baking soda, sea salt, rock salt or even table salt. It's fine to mix different kinds of salts together. If you purchase Dead Sea salt, air it out thoroughly on paper towels or cardboard before working with it.

2. Select essential oils to scent your bath salts. These can be purchased in most food stores or natural food shops. Do not put your nose close to the bottle since the smell is potent. If you wish to see what the homemade bath salts will smell like, apply a drop on a paper towel and let it sit two or three minutes before sweeping it past your nose.

3. Prepare the containers. Select glass bottles or jars that have a tight lid, in any size or shape that you think will appeal to the recipient.

4. Combine your salts in a large stainless steel mixing bowl. If using more than one kind of salt, use equal portions of each. A typical batch of bath salts is 2 cups, but you can adjust the amount to suit the size and number of containers you want to fill.

5. Add 1/2 teaspoon essential oils to the salts. Mix well to evenly distribute the oil. Cover container with plastic wrap for three hours. Alternatively, divide the salts into smaller containers and scent each batch separately. Use a ratio of about 25 drops of oil per cup of salt mixture.

6. Portion your homemade bath salts into the gift containers and adorn with a ribbon. Create labels or gift tags indicating the fragrance and instructions for use: Pour 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bath salts under warm running water for a soothing, relaxing bath.
