A ghillie suit is a suit of "leaves" and other rustic foliage pieces that allows you to blend in with the wilderness while hunting. Although these suits may seem expensive, you can still own one of your own with a little creativity. Making your own ghillie suit is a creative craft that requires you to make your own leaves as well. Knowing make leaves for a ghillie suit takes patience, but overall doesn't require much creativity or skill. Making artificial foliage helps save money on your hunting and outdoor goods.
Instructions
1. Spread out two or three sheets of assorted foliage-colored fabrics. This important step helps you select different color and texture variations for creating a natural-looking camouflage ghillie suit. Canvas, heavy cotton and denim are durable materials in shades of hunter green, olive green and an earthy tone of brown.
2. Place assorted leaf stencils over the surface of the different sheets of colored fabric. A craft and hobby supply store not only holds an unyielding array of fabric choices, but you can also find a myriad of leaf stencils. Outline the leaf stencils with a marker of a shade darker than the fabric you're using so that it can be seen for cutting.
3. Cut out each leaf from the sheets of fabric. In all, the number of leaves you need may total in the hundreds. That's because you need there to be layers of leaves on suit. The more leaves, the better, especially if you cut them out in a variance of sizes and shapes.
