If your position requires certification in first aid, you don't have to go back to school. You can take a quick course in a number of places. Just follow these steps.
Instructions
1. Search for first aid courses in your community. Call your local police, fire or EMT department and ask when they will be holding classes. Craigslist can lead you to a class in your area. You also can get certified for certain aspects of first aid online. Sites like profirstaid.com or cprandfirstaid.net will have you certified in a number of hours.
2. Find out how much training you need. The level of certification you need will determine the intensity of your course. Some will cover CPR (for which you will get a separate certificate) and others will not.
3. Study for the test. Most first aid courses will include a practical and written examination. Review the materials that you have learned. Take the practice quizzes and practice applications on a friend.
4. Take the test to get certified in first aid. Most first aid certification courses require a score of 75 percent or higher. The written portion is multiple choice.
5. Receive your certificate and apply it to your career. Once you receive your certificate, be sure to let your employer know. It may qualify you for additional responsibilities that might earn you a raise.
