Deer ticks carry at least five diseases, including Lyme disease. Ticks tend to bite around the upper part of the body. They are parasites that require the blood of animals to reproduce and eat. Deer ticks measure about an eighth of an inch and are black and green in color. They tend to wait on high grass strands for an animal to come by. Ticks jump or crawl onto animals; they don't fly. Here are some ways you can get rid of deer ticks.
Instructions
1. Spray your arms, legs, shoes and clothing with tick spray anytime you are entering woods or areas with tall grass. The spray should kill any ticks that land on it.
2. Mow the grass in the tick-infested area. Burn or haul away brush piles or dead tree limbs.
3. Spray your lawn with an outdoor tick spray. Focus on areas with higher grass or trees. Keep pets and children out of the areas sprayed for a few hours.
4. Give your pets monthly flea and tick treatments. Some products, like Frontline Plus, last a month.
5. Inside your home, spray the baseboards and any other infected areas indoors with a home tick spray. Stay out of the area until it dries. Sweep up any dead ticks and eggs.
