Chiropractor Types

Chiropractic treatments often involve spinal adjustments.

To most chiropractors, the health of your spine determines your overall health. Therefore, chiropractors practice manipulating your neuromusculoskeletal system to take your spine back into balance, from which it is thrown by day-to-day activities and stresses. The goal of these spinal adjustments is to relieve pain and inflammation, increase mobility and boost energy. Within the field of chiropractic, you'll find that practitioners can specialize in a few different modalities.

Mixing Chiropractor

According to Chiropractors.org, mixing chiropractors are the most common. Besides spinal adjustments, they apply physical therapy and nutritional principles to their treatment plan. They might also employ ultrasound and electrotherapy as aids. These practitioners are labeled "mixing chiropractors" because they combine different healing techniques in their practices.

Reform Chiropractor

Reform chiropractors don't believe that displaced vertebrae cause organ and infectious diseases. Therefore, they use spinal manipulation to treat only musculoskeletal problems, such as osteoarthritis and joint inflammations. They also often work in cooperation with osteopathic doctors.

Network Chiropractor

Network chiropractors base their treatments on the body's healing intelligence, an innate tendency to seek health. Therefore, they don't use spinal manipulation. Instead, network chiropractors lightly touch your spine during sessions to show it the way to self-healing.

Straight Chiropractor

Straight chiropractors specialize in correcting vertebral misalignments, which they perceive as the source of disease. By correcting spinal imbalances, they believe they can improve communication between your brain and your body and promote overall healing.

Applied Kinesiology Chiropractor

Applied kinesiology was developed in 1964 and it measures your muscle strength in order to determine your health status. This healing modality is still practiced today, and it uses muscle resistance tests to find out what areas of your body are weak.
