Make Therapuetic Bath Salts

Bath salts are very easy to make at home. They are made by blending several basic ingredients, all of which have various therapeutic qualities. The minerals in Epsom salts and sea salt are renowned for easing aching joints and reducing stress, among other purported health benefits. The baking soda and baby oil impart skin-softening properties to the bath salts. Your choice of essential oil provides fragrance and additional therapeutic benefits. This method makes about 10 cups of bath salts in total. To make other amounts, simply use more or less of the ingredients in the same proportions.

Instructions

1. Measure the Epsom salts, sea salt and baking soda into the mixing bowl. Stir the ingredients with the wooden spoon to blend them together thoroughly.

2. Add the baby oil to the dry mixture a little at a time, stirring continually to blend the mixture together. You can use more or less baby oil to get your preferred texture--the exact amounts are not too important.

3. Choose an essential oil for your therapeutic bath salts. For relaxation, try lavender or chamomile. For an energizing bath, choose rosemary or a citrus scent. Try peppermint to ease aching muscles.

4. Add a few drops of the chosen essential oil to the bath salt mixture and stir it in well with the wooden spoon. Add a few drops more for a stronger fragrance and blend again.

5. Add ¼ to ½ a cup of the bath salts to your running bathwater. Store the remainder of the salts in an airtight container, or transfer to glass jars for a homemade gift.
