A Rose Bush Turning Yellow

Too much water can cause your rose bush to wilt and yellow.

Few plants are as beautiful as a healthy rose bush, however, if not properly taken care of, rose bushes may turn yellow. Although yellowing might be a part of the natural growth process of shedding older leaves, check your rose bush for more serious problems.

Shock

Transplanted rose bushes may wilt and turn yellow. Avoid transplant shock by watering the rose bush well regularly.

Water

Both too much and too little water can cause a rose bush to turn yellow. Too much water may cause root rot and distress the plant; conversely too little water may cause the rose bush to shrivel up and turn yellow. All-American Rose Selections suggests watering rose bushes two to four times a week for about 20 minutes.

Disease

If the leaves on your rose bush have yellow spots or streaks, your bush may be suffering from a disease. Black spot fungus, if not controlled, can start as a black spot on the leaves and rose canes and lead to leaves turning yellow and dropping from the bush.
