Remove The Water Restrictor From A Moen Hand Shower

Moen hand showers have a water restrictor, which is a part inside the base of the handle near the hose connector. This part limits water flow into the shower, so it reduces the power of the shower spray stream. If your home has low water pressure, you may choose to remove this restrictor using a simple process. It is important to note that this part is there for a reason, which is to save you water. So, if you want to save water, keep it in your shower head.

Instructions

1. Turn the water off in your shower. Shut the handle all the way and keep it in the off position.

2. Locate the connector nut at the base of the hand shower. On Moen hand showers, this nut is a hexagonal one right near the end of the unit. It is between the hand shower and the hose running to the shower.

3. Unscrew the nut by turning it counterclockwise with a suitable wrench or a pair of pliers. If you don't want to scratch the nut's finish, or you have a chrome Moen hand shower, tape the end of the wrench or pliers first.

4. Take the hand shower off the hose. Pull the restrictor out of the base of the hand shower with your finger or a screwdriver tip. The restrictor may just drop out of the faucet handle in some cases.

5. Place the hose back on the hand shower. Thread the nut on and tighten the nut with the wrench or pliers to continue using the shower.
