Remove The Propeller In A Ge Triton Xl Dishwasher

The GE Triton XL dishwasher has three rotating washer arms.

The Triton XL is a late model, built-in dishwasher unit made by GE Appliances and designed for thorough cleaning of large loads. The propeller-shaped sprayer arms, called wash arms in GE parlance, blast water and detergent onto the dishes with force, while spinning, to wash away debris. As they are constantly exposed to water, debris, detergents and high heat, they can become clogged or jammed, reducing efficiency of the wash and rinse cycles. There are three of these arms in the Triton XL: one on the lower surface of the dishwasher cavity, a second mounted to the underside of the top rack and a third mounted to the ceiling of the dishwasher cavity. All are mounted with the same hardware and can be removed in the same manner, either for cleaning or replacement.

Instructions

1. Turn off electrical power to the dishwasher before commencing any work on the Triton XL dishwasher unit. Either flip the relevant circuit breaker or unplug the unit at the wall socket if it is not hard wired

2. Open the dishwasher door and slide out the racks to their full extension. Lift the racks off their roller tracks and set them aside. If you need to remove the washer arm that is attached to the underside of the upper rack, set that rack upside down on the countertop or other stable work surface.

3. Loosen the bolt at the center of the wash arm assembly, being careful to hold on to the thin washer beneath the bolt as it comes loose. Set the washer and bolt aside for reassembly, if needed.

4. Grasp the propeller with one hand on each arm and pull straight up. Gently wiggle the sprayer arm, if needed, to loosen any mineral deposits that may be acting as a glue between the washer arm and the mounting.

Tips Warnings

Refrain from placing your body weight on the open door surface as this can damage the hinge mechanism and possibly the face plate of the dishwasher.
