Replace The Valve Cover Gasket In A Chrysler Sebring

If your 1995 through 1999 Chrysler Sebring has been driven 100,000 miles or more, it is most likely time to replace the valve cover gasket. Indications that this maintenance needs to be performed might include experiencing an oil leak, smoke coming from your engine or your check oil light might be coming on.

Instructions

1. Allow the engine to cool and disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate and remove the air cleaner inlet duct. Disconnect and remove the spark plug wires. Locate and remove the ignition coil pack.

2. Use a 9/16 mm wrench to remove the bolts securing the valve cover. Lift the valve cover off. Using a flathead screwdriver, gently remove the old gasket. Clean the gasket seating area using automotive engine cleaner and a clean cloth rag.

3. Make sure that all debris and particles are removed from the gasket seating area. Place the new gasket into place. Place the valve cover and bolts back into place, tightening the bolts with a torque wrench. Reinstall the coil pack assembly.

4. Reconnect the spark plug wires and the air cleaner inlet duct. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

5. Add oil to the car and start the engine. Allow the car to run idle for 10 to 15 minutes. Drive the car a short distance to check for leaks.
