The Yamaha V Star 650, also known as the Yamaha V Star Classic, is a mid-range cruiser that has been manufactured by Yamaha's Star Motorcycle division since 1997. Save for a few cosmetic changes, its technical specifications largely remained the same as of 2010. Because of its large engine displacement, it is suited to individuals with previous experience in cruiser motorcycles.
Dimensions
The Yamaha V Star 650 is 43.5 inches in height, 96.5 inches in length, 36.6 inches in width, 5.7 inches in ground clearance and 64 inches in wheelbase. It has a wet weight of 544 lbs., which includes a full main fuel tank of 4.2 gallons with 0.79 gallons in reserve. It has a payload capacity of 441 lbs., a rake of 32 degrees, a turning radius of 10.2 feet and a payload capacity of 441 lbs.
Engine
The Yamaha V Star Classic is equipped with an air-cooled, four-stroke, two-cylinder V-Twin engine with two valves per cylinder in single overhead camshaft, SOHC, configuration. A compression ratio of 9.01:1 coupled with a bore and stroke of 3.19 and 2.48 inches gives an engine displacement of 649 cubic centimeters, cc. The engine is fueled by two 28-millimeter Mikuni carburetors and is controlled by a shaft-driven, five-speed overdrive manual transmission. The engine is activated by an electric starter. Combined with its fuel capacity, this gives the V Star 650 a combined fuel consumption of 49 miles per gallon.
Chassis
The front of the V Star Classic's chassis is fitted with telescopic fork suspension with 5.5-inch travel, four caliper pistons, 11.7-inch hydraulic disc brakes and Dunlop 130/90 SR16 tires. The rear is fitted with twin-sided swing-arm suspension with 3.9-inch travel, a shock absorber, 7.9-inch drum brakes and Dunlop 170/80 SR15 tires. The chassis has a front fork diameter of 1.6 inches.
