Make A Dish Scrubbie From A Net Produce Bag

After eating oranges, turn their bag into a cleaning tool.

The environmentally minded consumer may bring their own reusable grocery bags to the store to cut down on paper and plastic waste, but often still purchase food in packaging that can't be recycled. Foods such as garlic and onions often come packaged in mesh packaging. However, these mesh bags are readily reused as dish scrubbers. Reuse net produce bags to save money on dish sponges and to reduce your household waste. According to the Oklahoma State University Extension Services Family and Consumer Sciences division, reusing materials is preferable to disposing of them in a landfill or even recycling.

Instructions

1. Remove all food and scraps from the inside of a mesh or net produce bag. Be sure to empty onion and garlic bags of any leftover pieces of skin.

2. Cut off any plastic labeling on the top of the bag and remove any paper or plastic ties from the bottom of the bag.

3. Fold the bag in half. Fold it in half again. Continue to fold into a small square or rectangular shape.

4. Wrap a piece of fishing line around the middle of the square or rectangle. Wrap it several times and pull it tight.

5. Tie a knot in the fishing line.

6. Use the dish scrubber to get off difficult food spots when washing pots, pans and other dishes.

Tips Warnings

Clean your dish scrubber in a dishwasher or by washing with hot water.

Rinse out any food particles after each use.
