Use Reflexology For Arthritis

Reflexology techniques for arthritis

Learning the right techniques to use in reflexology can help ease the symptoms of arthritis. Reflexology is a form of bodywork that uses pressure points on the feet to stimulate the nerves and ease tension in the body. There are certain points on the feet that can be used to help relieve some of the pain associated with arthritis. You should work the areas on the feet that are associated with the affected area of arthritis on your body. You can apply pressure as needed, and you should still continue with any medical care that you are receiving.

Instructions

Reflexology for Arthritis

1. Follow a reflexology chart. Find the areas on your foot that are associated with the affected areas on your body where you have arthritis pain.

2. Find a comfortable place to sit where your foot is supported. You can use a stool with a pillow that allows you to bring your foot close to your hands. Lay a towel over the stool to keep it clean.

3. Put a small amount of oil or lotion on your hand and rub it into the foot. Make sure the lotion is absorbed before attempting to use pressure.

4. Locate the points on the foot for the knee, hip and shoulder. Following the foot chart, use your thumb to start applying pressure to each point in an upward motion.

5. Repeat the upward pressure of the thumb to each reflex point. Use the side or top of the thumb to rub the area in one, even stroke.

6. Use the pressure techniques to apply a massaging action to the entire foot to promote relaxation. Be sure to only use as much pressure as comfortable.

7. Use the towel to remove any lotion that was not absorbed. Repeat each step for the other foot.
