Influence Gender Selection

Influence Gender Selection

Trying to influence the gender of a child before conception is an age-old practice steeped in folklore and myth. However, among some of the techniques are a few that use actual fertility science as the basis for altering one's lifestyle and behavior. Couples often want to choose the sex of their baby and they will go to great lengths to do so. There are some simple methods, which may offer assistance and one medical procedure that will guarantee the desired gender. The following tips will help to familiarize you with all the possibilities.

Instructions

1. Undergo embryo screening for the only reliable method to predetermine the sex of your baby. Lab technicians combine the mother's eggs and the father's sperm in a Petri dish. Within three days of fertilization, a scientist tests a microscopic cell from each embryo to determine the gender. Then the doctor implants the correct embryo in the mother's uterus.

2. Try some less invasive and less expensive alternatives to help you influence the gender of your baby. Most of these methods depend upon the idea that male sperm swim faster than female sperm but wear out more quickly and that temperature fluctuations affect male and female sperm differently.

3. Use the basal method of determining ovulation. Do this by taking your body temperature every morning before you get out of bed and recording it on a chart. When you ovulate, your temperature will drop and then level out until you have your period. In this manner, you can schedule sexual activity to coincide with the time most likely for you to conceive a boy or a girl. See the Resources section for a link.

4. Plan sexual activity as close to ovulation as possible if you want a boy. Since male sperm swim quicker, they have an increased chance of fertilizing the egg before a female sperm does. Do just the opposite if you want a girl. Schedule sexual activity to occur three or four days before you expect to ovulate and do not have sex within two days of your ovulation. Hopefully, the male sperm will no longer be around and a female sperm will find the egg.

5. Buy your husband tight briefs if you want to conceive a girl. The tighter the fabric on the male's testicles, the higher the temperature within the testicles, themselves. Male sperm perish quickly when the temperature rises. Likewise, if you're trying for a boy, the male should avoid hot baths and wear loose boxer-type underwear.

6. Allow up to one year to conceive with these methods. Because you are purposefully taking steps to reduce the likelihood of one type of sperm fertilizing an egg, it may prolong the period before you conceive.
