Homemade Liver Cleanser

The liver plays a key role in detoxifying the human body. Its most powerful duty is to eliminate the toxins that people are exposed to each day. According to the Food and Drug Administration, there are approximately 70,000 various forms of chemicals that are of concern. There are over 2,000 new ones introduced each year to which we can be exposed. They surround us in our medicines, our breathing air, cosmetics, daily care products, drinking water and foods. Being aware of the needs of the liver and its necessary cleansing is imperative to good health.

Homemade Liver Cleansers

Choose from among some beneficial homemade liver and colon cleansing recipes. A herbal cleanser is called triphala, a blood purifier that aids in the secretion of the bile by cleansing the liver and helping the digestive process run more smoothly. It does not, however, deplete the body reserves in the process. It's made up of three fruits--bahera, harada and amla. It's also a good laxative because it consists of bioflaonoids, linoleic oil, phospholipids and vitamin C.

A diet of pure juice is a powerful way to rid the liver and colon of toxins. The vegetables and fruits have to be juiced while they're at their freshest point to get the full effect of the enzymes. In addition, drinking large amounts of water is required to flush out the toxin buildup in the body. An effective juice recipe could include one basket of strawberries, three apples, one group of grapes, four sprigs of fresh mint and water.

An Overall Beneficial Liver Cleansing Diet

Alter the way you eat. Start by buying organic food that has a much higher concentration of nutrients. Organic vegetables and fruits have 40 percent more antioxidants than typical produce, along with higher amounts of beneficial zinc and iron. In addition, milk from organic animals is far healthier and contains 90 percent more antioxidants than regular milk. Fiber is a key element in maintaining a healthy liver. Your liver naturally dispels of a toxin by putting it into the digestive system, and it can be absorbed into the bloodstream. If fiber is rampant in your system, it disseminates the toxin through bowel movements and bypasses the blood. Whole grains are the best form of fiber, along with vegetables and fruits. Psyllium seeds and ground flax are also excellent sources of fiber. Eat protein in the form of nuts, fish and beans. It's OK to have limited portions of chicken and beef, but broiling or eating them in soup form are healthier formats. Try to avoid frying and grilling, because the high temperatures can cause dangerous chemicals to form. The liver needs the "good" fats that are in foods, such as omega-6 oils that are in grape and olive seed oils and omega-3 fish oils. Use coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil, because they're considered to be stable fats.

Foods to Avoid for a Healthy Liver

Don't negate your efforts with foods containing refined carbohydrates. These include cake, cookies, crackers, white flour and pasta. They can clutter your colon and raise blood sugar levels. Soft drinks are also detrimental, because they're more acidic and can raise blood sugar levels. Products that contain Monosodium glutamate are especially detrimental to the liver. Avoid anything with Splenda or Aspartame. Shellfish, lobster, swordfish, mackerel, tuna and crab can contain high levels of mercury and should be avoided, along with dairy products and processed meat.

Smoking has overall bad side effects and should be avoided. Caffeine actually helps the liver in detoxifying toxins. It should be ingested in moderation, however, because too much caffeine in the form of coffee with added sugar and dairy products can be damaging for the liver. Moderation is the key in this regard. Green tea is a better choice, and is an aid in detoxification of the liver.
