Make Tulsi Tea From A Tulsi Plant

The tulsi plant is an herbaceous sub-shrub that is also referred to as holy basil. It's highly aromatic and possesses a sweet, slightly bitter, spiced flavor that lends to a myriad of uses. Aside from using it as an exotic seasoning in recipes, you can brew delicious and reportedly beneficial herbal tea. Knowing brew tea from a tulsi plant gives you a new experience of herbal teas beyond black-pekoe and other common varieties.

Instructions

1. Snip approximately ½ cup fresh leaves from the tulsi plant. Use scissors to snip the leaves, one-at-a-time. This assures that you don't damage the plant so it can continue to thrive.

2. Spread the leaves of the holy basil, or tulsi, out on a baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Bake the leaves on the central rack for 15 minutes. This dries them quickly.

3. Stuff the muslin or cheesecloth pouch with the dried tulsi leaves. Tie it into itself to form a knot.

4. Fill a teapot with 2 cups boiling water. Throw the pouch containing tulsi into the hot teapot and cover it. Let it steep for up to 5 minutes. Pour into a cup or mug. Flavor with honey and milk or enjoy as is.
