Symptoms Of A Herniated Disc In The Neck

A herniated disc in the neck is a common source of pain. The disc is a soft, rubber-like cushion with a gel-like center. When the center of the disc bulges out toward the spine it is like a chemical irritation to nerves.


Headaches


Headaches in the back of the head may develop as a result of pain originating in the area between the neck and shoulder.


Muscles


Muscles may spasm or tighten uncontrollably. Muscles in the hand used to grip things will become weaker, as well as muscles in triceps and biceps.


Neck and Shoulder


There will be a burning pain in the shoulders near the shoulder blade. It will painful to turn or bend the neck.


Arm and Hand


Pain that begins in the arm will move into the hand. The pain may burn and the arm may begin to tingle and feel numb.








Rarer Symptoms


In more extreme and rare cases, symptoms of a herniated disc in the neck include clumsiness, changes in walking and inability to control the bowels and bladder.
