Ovarian cancer is a devastating disease. According to the National Cancer Institute, two thirds of cases are not diagnosed until the cancer has spread throughout the body. Support groups are a vital part of fighting through those grim statistics.
Features
Support groups are formal or informal groups of people who gather to help each other through a specific life challenge such as alcohol addiction or cancer. Support groups exist at the national, state and local level.
National Groups
The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is a comprehensive support group with state chapters that have ongoing support groups. On its website there is information about all aspects of the disease such as information for the newly diagnosed.
Online Groups
There are also online support groups, such as the Ovarian Cancer Support Group at DailyStrength.com. These groups allow for anonymity as well as 24/7 support.
All Types
Gilda's Club supports people with all types of cancer, and has a web and local presence.
Local Groups
Your local hospital or cancer center may also have a support group. Ask your doctor about it.
