What Is An Ionizer

An ionizer is an device that is designed to use a high voltage current to create tiny electrically charges molecules called ions. These ions are released into the air or into water for purification purposes.

Types

There are two main types of ionizers, each one designed for a different purpose: air ionizers are designed to purify the air and water ionizers designed to purify water.

Purpose

Ionizers are designed for the purpose of getting rid of impurities and contaminants for a healthier atmosphere and drinking water.

Function

Ionizers work to purify air and water by releasing negatively-charged ions, which attach themselves to bacteria, allergens and dust molecules, helping to get rid of them.

Benefits

Ionizers help to prevent disease by getting rid of bacteria, viruses and contaminants. By getting rid of allergens, they help to alleviate conditions such as asthma. Ionizers also help get rid of odors caused by indoor pets and smoking.

Effects

Felix Gad Sulman, MD, in a study on the physiological effects of negative ions (see Resources below), lists a number of effects that ionizers can have, including: Decreased respiratory rate and blood pressure, enhanced resistance to infection and increased metabolism.
