1. Sleep at least eight hours a night to improve your condition, and take periodic breaks to recharge your body and mind. Tiredness is common with fibromyalgia.
2. Exercise for 30 minutes a day--walking, aerobics, swimming or biking. Regular activity or movement can boost your energy level and fight fatigue and muscle aches.
3. Know your limitations. To combat fatigue, recognize your personal limitations, and if necessary, delegate responsibilities to relieve mental and emotional stress. Eliminating chronic stress may also involve an employment change or cutting back on your extracurricular activities.
4. Consider massage therapy. Massages improve blood circulation, relax tenses muscles, increase mobility and encourage the production of natural endorphins that reduce pain.
5. Adopt healthier eating habits. Certain foods can aggravate fibromyalgia. Make diet modification and reduce your intake of fatty foods, fried foods, red meats, carbonated drinks, alcohol and caffeine. Choose healthy fruits and vegetables, and limit your sugar intake.
6. Experiment with painkillers. To reduce muscle and joint pain, take over-the-counter pain medications such as acetaminophen or aspirin. Take as directed.
7. Talk to your doctor about an antidepressant. A low dose antidepressant can relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia. These medications increase the production of serotonin, which can decrease pain and tiredness.
