Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery in which fat is suctioned out of the body. A small incision is made in the targeted area such as the abdomen, thighs or buttocks. A plastic surgeon injects the area with a solution of saline water, lidocaine and epinephrine to lessen blood loss during the procedure. Then a cannula is inserted under the skin. An up-and-down motion is applied to suction out fat and fluid. Local or general anesthesia is given during the procedure. After the procedure, pain, bruising and swelling occur. Normal activities and exercise are restricted for about three weeks. New alternatives are being used in place of liposuction and are less invasive with little or no side effects. These alternatives contour and sculpt the body just as well as liposuction but without surgery.
Lipodissolve
Lipodissolve is a non-surgical procedure and is used on the areas of the body such as the chin, arms, belly and legs. Lipodissolve is used to treat areas of fat that have been hard to get rid of, even with diet and exercise, and reduces cellulite. Several medications and enzymes are injected at the targeted site on the body. Fat then is dissolved into a liquid form that naturally will be eliminated through the excretion of urine over a period of a few weeks. Usually, two to three sessions are needed for patients to achieve their desired look. Side effects such as lumps, bruising and skin irritation can occur but are temporary and go away within a few days
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is a popular procedure performed in Europe and South America. Injections consist of amino acids, medications and holistic elements that dissolve fatty tissue. The injections are administered into the middle layer of your skin and block the cells that create fat, while stimulating the receptors that break it down. The needle that is used during this procedure is so small the procedure feels virtually painless, and patients can return to their normal daily routines afterward. A little swelling and bruising may occur and often go away within a few days after treatment.
Thermage
Thermage was approved by the FDA in 2006 for reduction of skin laxity in areas on the body such as the arms, thighs, abdomen and buttocks. Thermage uses a laser that heats your skin's outer layer, regenerating collagen deep inside the skin. During the procedure, mild heat is felt as radio frequencies are released along the skin. Collagen fills in wrinkles and smooths your skin's outer layers. Skin becomes tighter, more toned and more youthful-looking. Collagen will continue to grow for 6 months after the procedure, showing a more dramatic improvement of the skin's tone and texture.
Diet and Exercise
One of the oldest and natural alternatives to liposuction is diet and exercise. Change your diet so you can begin losing weight. Eat three small meals during the day that consist of fruits, vegetables and lean meat. In between meals, snack on fruits, raw vegetables and nuts. Eating several small meals through out the day will help to boost your metabolism so you will want to exercise. Exercise five days a week for an hour. Exercising will tone and tighten loose skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite without undergoing a dramatic procedure such as liposuction.
Lipomassage
Lipomassage is a non-invasive treatment used to break up fat and reduce cellulite. It is a great alternative to liposuction and works with all bodies of different shapes and sizes. Lipomassage involves no injections, incisions or drugs and takes about an hour with no down time or recovery. Lipomassage works as motorized rollers break down and smooth fat trapped within the skin. The rollers first roll the skin inward to target excess fat and begin slimming the skin. Next, the rollers move outward so areas of loose skin are firmed. Lastly, they roll up the skin at different speeds so the body is shaped and contoured. The massaging action also improves blood flow and flushes out toxins while stimulating the body's natural ability to produce collagen.
