Natural Way To Get Rid Of Ticks

Tick bites can be dangerous. According to the U.S. Library of Medicine, ticks can carry diseases such as Lyme Disease, Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Tularemia. These disease can be debilitating and even life threatening. If you are unfortunate enough to have a tick bite, there is a natural way to easily get rid of ticks.

Avoid the Myths

There are several myths out there on natural ways to remove ticks. These methods will only do more harm than good. Some of the more popular ideas include burning the tick with a match or lighter, pouring kerosene on the tick, and putting petroleum jelly all over the tick. The only safe natural way to get rid of ticks is to use a pair of tweezers.

Properly Removing the Tick

Sterilize your tweezers by rubbing them down with alcohol or by burning the ends and letting them cool. Use the tweezers to firmly grab the head of the tick as close to your skin as you can get. Pull the tweezers straight back.

Clean the wound

Once the tick is removed, clean the site with warm, soapy water. Watch the bite area closely for at least a week to make sure that there is no reaction. Look for any swelling or raised, itchy areas. If you start to feel sick, go to the doctor immediately. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

If Any of the Tick Remains

Sometimes when using the natural way to get rid of ticks, the head will remain embedded in the skin. If this happens, see a doctor. Do not try to gouge the tick head out or wait for it to fall out on its own. You could be putting yourself in danger of contracting one of the above mentioned diseases.
