Treat Prostate Enlargement

You are suffering from an enlarged prostate and you need to get some relief. There are many methods today to treat prostate enlargement, such as prescribed medications, herbal remedies, non-surgical procedures, and in more severe cases, surgery. Read here treat your enlarged prostate and get back to normal.

Instructions

Medication Treatments

1. Take an alpha blocker drug, such as terazosin, doxazosin, tamsulosin or alfuzosin. These drugs are similar in effectiveness and will help you to urinate easier by loosening up the muscles that surround your bladder.

2. Consider an enzyme inhibitor. This type of drug will reduce the size of your prostate, but the effects take longer than alpha blockers. If you have a very large prostate, the effectiveness will be quicker than for men with normal-size prostates.

3. Combine an alpha blocker with an enzyme inhibitor, a treatment method which may have more effective results overall for minimizing your symptoms and preventing them from recurring.

Non-Surgical Treatments

4. Ask about microwave therapy (TUMT). This method uses microwave heat that is emitted in the penis through a catheter to break down the inside of the enlarged prostate.

5. Consider undergoing transurethral needle ablation (TUNA). Also known as radiofrequency therapy, it is an outpatient treatment method that emits heat from radio waves to the part of the prostate that is keeping you from passing urine.

6. Look into interstitial laser therapy. This procedure sends laser energy directly to the core of your enlarged prostate and lessens its size. This procedure is less common than other non-surgical methods.

Surgical Treatments

7. Talk to your doctor about transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). You will go under general anesthesia and your doctor will cut away prostate tissue that is causing your symptoms. This is the most effective surgery.

8. Keep your options open for transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP). This surgical procedure is good for men who are not in line for other types of surgery, have smaller prostates, or don't want to risk becoming sterile.

9. Research other types of surgery, such as laser and open prostatectomy. Laser surgery is new and its effectiveness is still being studied. Open prostatectomy is generally performed on men with unusual complications. Talk to your doctor before deciding on any type of surgery.

Natural Herb Treatments

10. Take saw palmetto in recommended doses. It will help to keep inflammation down and inhibit the male hormones that cause enlargement of the prostate. Saw palmetto is known to have no negative side effects.

11. Add pygeum africanum to your daily intake. Research shows that it decreases prostate enlargement and eases up on inflammation.

12. Be sure to take a daily dose of zinc to keep your prostate healthy and shrink it in size over time.
