Cancer Treatments Using Chinese Herbs

Anyone who has had cancer or known someone with cancer knows how devastating the prognosis can be. In many ways, Western medicine has come a long way in treating cancer. However, they have not made much progress in curing more aggressive types of cancer without destroying good tissue in the process. More and more people are turning to Chinese herbs to treat their cancer when all else fails.

The Value of Chinese Herbs

One of the biggest advantages of using Chinese herbs to treat cancer is that the effects of the treatment are non-invasive and have no side effects. Biomedical medicine is contrary in that it seems to do a person more harm than good and biomedical treatments have a tendency to wear down the will of the patient. And while western medicine deals primarily with the melanoma, Chinese herbal remedies try to address the root of the problem, which is the overall health of the patient.

Chinese herbs can also be used in conjunction with biomedical treatments by helping to off-set the destructive effects of chemotherapy, to boost the patient's immune system, and to actually help reduce the size of the tumor so that the patient can spend less time receiving chemotherapy or radiation.

Types of Chinese Herbs

There are several types of Chinese herbs available to help fight various cancers. Many of these are used to reduce the size of the tumor itself via their antineoplastic properties.

Oldenlandia (Chinese Bai He She She Cao) is used to treat cancers of the digestive system. Selaginaella (Chinese Shi Shang Bai) is helpful in the treatment of lung and throat cancers and where many experiments on mice have shown a tumor regression of 40-50 percent. Other herbs can be used to help fight lymphoma and leukemia.

Chinese medicine is starting---at the very least as a supplement to biomedical procedures---to gain some attention in the Western world.

Chinese Herb Treatments Hard to Study

Part of the doubt about Chinese herbs amongst Western practitioners is due to the lack of proper studies. Because Chinese herbal treatments are so individualized, it is difficult to gain a sample large enough to satisfy Western standards for medicinal study. In order for a study to work by Western standards, there must be an application of the same treatment across a panel of patients.

Heat Toxin Cleaning

Chinese herbal treatments are classified as "Heat Toxic Cleaning." These heat toxins have been known to help wipe out viruses and bacteria. And because many feel that cancer has virus-like properties, it only seems natural to assume that the heat toxins found in Chinese herbs should help in stopping cancer.

Regardless of how Western medicine feels about Chinese herbs to treat cancer, at the very least it could not hurt to incorporate Chinese herbs into the cancer treatment routine.
