Discolored bowel movements can be alarming. There are many causes of discolored bowel movement but most of them are not cause for worry. Green bowel movements are caused by a host of reasons. Cope with your green bowel movements by getting to the bottom of their cause.
Instructions
1. Examine your diet. Many green bowel movements are caused by eating large amounts of leafy, green vegetables. Some common offenders are spinach, lettuce and broccoli. If you suspect your green bowel movements are attributed to this, reduce your intake of these vegetables and note any future changes in color.
2. Reduce your intake of artificially colored foods. Many frozen fruit treats, fruity drinks, fruit snacks, candies and cereals are made with artificial green food coloring. They may cause green bowel movements. If you suspect artificial food coloring is contributing to your green bowel movements, refrain from eating those foods. Stick to a whole food diet and avoid processed foods.
3. Limit excessive iron in your diet. Products that contain excessive iron cause
4. Note additional bowel changes. If you experience diarrhea in addition to your green bowel movement, the problem may go beyond your diet. Some green bowel movements are caused by a change in your colonic transit time. See a doctor if any additional changes occur with your bowel movement.
