Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that effects the skin and often the joints of an individual. Unlike other skin conditions, psoriasis is neither contagious or a threat to a person's long term health. However, because there is no known cure, those who have psoriasis are forced to contend with frequent treatment. In India, this is no different. Thankfully, there are many avenues for which to treat psoriasis.
Topical Treatment
Many topical treatments, such as moisturizers or other ointments, are used to
Phototherapy
Phototherapy is the use of short, non-burning exposure to ultraviolet light to help clear the signs of psoriasis. This can be used alone, but is often times combined with topical treatments. While this method of treatment has become common in the western world, in recent years it has begun to be used in New Delhi hospitals.
Systemic Treatment
People who have tried other methods and have seen zero results will usually be prescribed some form of systemic treatment. Usually a pill or injection. The downside to this is that the toxicity of the medication can severely inhibit liver functions.
Doctor Fish
Doctor fish are, in reality, reddish log suckers. They breed primarily in Turkey, India and Ireland. They are used in some psoriasis cases because the reddish log sucker will actually eat the infected skin of the patient while leaving the non-infected skin alone.
Undecylenic acid
Undecylenic acid, as most acid does, eats away at the infected skin. It is not dangerous to the person using it, as it is also used in common products such as shampoos and anti-dandruff medications.
