Prostate Problems & Symptoms

The prostrate is a gland in a man's reproductive system. It is a small oval-shaped gland that manufacturers and transports sperm. Prostrate problems include prostrate cancer and an enlarged prostrate. If detected early enough, prostrate cancer is highly treatable. With an enlarged prostrate, the prostrate can press on the bladder and cause urinary problems.

Urination

Symptoms of an enlarged prostrate include difficulty urinating, a weak urine stream, increased frequency of urination and a difficulty starting urination.

Straining

Symptoms of an enlarged prostrate can also cause the man to strain while urinating, and being unable to maintain a continual stream of urine. At the end of urination there may be a dribbling of urine and an inability to empty the bladder.

Nighttime

Increased nighttime urination can be a symptom of an enlarged prostrate. The man may feel an urgent need to urinate.

Infection

Symptoms of enlarged prostrate can include a urinary tract infection and blood in the urine.

Cancer

Prostrate cancer typically has no early symptoms, yet it sometimes has similar urinary symptoms as an enlarged prostrate. However, those symptoms most commonly indicate an enlarged prostrate as opposed to prostrate cancer.
