Survive A Pandemic

In some historical cases, strains of the flu virus have become widely contagious to the point that they have caused a pandemic. These public health disasters have required individuals, community groups and governments to take drastic measures. Today, experts have plans in place to slow the spread of disease and reduce the number of deaths in case of a pandemic.

Instructions

1. Stay at home if you are sick. The people around you can help you survive your illness if they are healthy.

2. Quarantine yourself voluntarily if your family members have flu symptoms to avoid infecting others. Seek access to antiviral medications if they are being distributed by local health authorities.

3. Encourage others to stay home if they have the first signs of illness and ask them to remain at home if they have sick family members.

4. Practice social distancing. Encourage your employer to allow workers to telecommute or work staggered shifts. Support a policy that allows family members of sick household members to stay at home during a pandemic.

5. Use social distancing to protect your family as well. Remove your children from school and day care.

6. Avoid public gatherings and cancel any planned meetings or events.

7. Follow any special instructions given by local or national authorities to maintain order and reduce infections. They are your allies when you are trying to survive a pandemic.
