Use White Peony Root

The peony is named for the Greek god of medicine and healing.

The flowering white peony, prized for its beauty, is also popular in native Chinese medicine. There is an ancient Chinese legend that says the ghost of a beautiful woman brought this flower to a healing man and continued to appear to him, weeping, until he understood the medicinal powers of the plant. Unless you are very experienced in working with medicinal herbs, it is not recommended that you attempt to powder white peony root yourself. White peony root is available at many health food and naturopathic supply stores.

Instructions

1. Measure out 1 oz. of powdered white peony root using a food scale. Place this powder into a large glass bowl.

2. Bring 1 pint of water to a boil. Pour the water over the powder. Stir the mixture until all of the white peony root dissolves.

3. Fill a teacup with the white peony root tea. According to the Institute for Traditional Medicine, white peony has historically been used to help relieve painful menstrual cycles, abdominal pain, muscle cramping and night sweats.
