What Is Synvisc







Synvisc is a medication used to control knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is a gel mixture that is made from a substance similar to joint fluid, therefore protecting the cartilage. In addition to helping to ease the pain from arthritis of the knee, the use of Synvisc can help protect the bone from further deterioration.


Medication's Properties


Synvisc is a combination of hylan A fluid, hylan B gel and salt water. It is made from the combs of chickens.








How It Is Given


Synvisc is an injectable medication. The injection is given in a doctor's office.


What It Does


Injections of Synvisc act as a supplement to the synovial fluid of the knee. After completion of the three injections, Synvisc can increase the fluid and allow the knee to move more freely.


Side Effects


Redness and swelling and the injection site are possible. Rashes and itching have been reported. Any more severe complications are very rare.


Considerations


Synvisc requires three injections to work for osteoarthritis knee plain. They are given at one week intervals.
