Healthy Body Crafts For Preschool

Incorporate healthy body crafts into preschool lessons.

Use crafts to engage preschool children in learning about good health. Providing healthy body crafts to preschool children teaches them the importance of healthy habits. In these crafts include lessons about eating well and maintaining good hygiene. Let the preschool children share their projects with the rest of the class for more learning opportunities.

Healthy Foods Craft

Teach the children about how healthy foods keep their bodies healthy. Talk about the healthy food groups. Cover fruits and vegetables, grains, meats and dairy products. Ask the children to pick a favorite food item from each category. Have them draw and color each food item they picked. Help them cut out the individual food items. Pass out paper plates to all of the students. Let them glue or tape their food items to the plates.

Healthy Versus Junk Food Craft

Provide magazines with pictures of food, either in the articles or the advertisements, to the children. Ask them to cut out all the food they can find. Make sure each child has a stack of at least 10 different food items. Give each child a sheet of construction paper. Have the draw a line down the middle of the paper. Tell them to glue healthy food items to one side and junk food items to the other side of the line.

Body Book

Talk to the preschool children about the parts of their body. Use basic parts such as head, arms, hands, legs and feet. Instruct the children to draw different parts of the body on separate pieces of paper. On each page, have the children draw ways to keep that body part healthy. For the legs, a child can draw someone running. On the hands, a child can draw soap and bubbles to indicate hand washing. Collect the papers and attach together to create a book.

Soap Making Craft

Teach preschool children the importance of hand washing as a way to maintain a healthy body. Help children make their own soap. Use shape molds used for candy or soap making. Ask the children to choose a favorite mold. Find different colors of glycerin soap. Cut into one-inch chunks. Let the children choose different colored chunks of soap. Have an adult melt the soap, in a microwave-safe bowl, in the microwave. Pour the melted soap into the molds. Let cool completely then give the soap the child. Let them keep their soap to wash their hands often.
