Cures For Toothaches

Toothaches can make you absolutely miserable, especially when they last for hours with their pulsating pain. Though there are over-the-counter pain medications you can take, some offer minimal relief at best. The good news is that there are natural cures which are just as, if not more effective than, these medications.

Warm Salt Water

This is the old tried and true solution. Mix a teaspoon of salt into an 8 oz. glass of warm water and rinse the affected area repeatedly until the entire glass is gone. The salt has healing properties while the warm water soothes. In some cases it can provide pain relief for hours. This can be repeated as many times as necessary.

Clove Oil

Clove oil contains a natural substance called eugenol; this not only has antibacterial properties, but works as an anesthetic as well. When applied to your tooth, it kills the pain and helps rid the tooth of the infection causing it.

To make the solution, mix two drops of clove oil with a few drops of olive oil. You then dip a cotton ball into the mixture and place it directly on the tooth; you should experience instant pain relief.

Use a Teabag

Teabags contain tannins which, when placed against the tooth responsible for the ache, will help draw out any infection causing the pain. You can use either a warm or cold tea bag, however the pain relief may not be as instantaneous as it is with other methods.

Apply an Ice Cube

Ice cubes are 70 to 80 percent effective when it comes to relieving toothache pain, however they should not be left on your tooth for more than 20 minutes because they can damage the enamel of your tooth.

Pain relief occurs as the ice cube reduces the pulsations moving along the tracts of the nerves.

Massage the Pain Away

There are pressure points located in various spots through your body, your earlobes being one of them. When you massage the earlobe on the side where the infected tooth is located and causing the pain, your pain is relieved. To perform properly, wrap your forefinger and thumb around your earlobe and rub until the pain is gone.

Oral Hygiene

Simply brushing, flossing or rinsing your teeth can cure your tooth pain. This process helps remove any food which may be stuck in your tooth and causing the toothache to begin with.
