Care After A Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is an operation that requires special care after the initial surgery. The procedure removes hairs from the back of the head and transplants them on top. The follicles re-grow your natural hair because the cells in the back of the head never stop producing. Caring for your hair after a transplant is important to protect and maintain the follicles.

Instructions

1. Sleep in an upright position. The hair transplant procedure should only take a few hours inside the clinic. When you are at home, you will need to be very careful with the implants. Sleeping on a pillow or with your head on a bed can disturb your follicles. Even though it does not happen very often, the grafts could fall out. If this happens, call the clinic immediately and ask them what you should do.

2. Washing or even touching your head for the first couple of days can disturb your hair transplant. It is important that the hairs that were transplanted are not disturbed. You can cause the follicles to move or even fall out.

3. Wearing a cap or hat can slow down the healing process. This can also cause damage to your new transplant. If you must wear a hat to hide the area, be sure they have vent holes, as heat slows down the process.

4. Stay out of the sun before the healing process is complete. If your head is exposed to sunlight, a burn could occur. This will hinder your hair grafts and slow down your healing time.

5. Sweating can cause an infection in your hair transplant regions. If you exercise regularly or live in a warmer climate, you will need to wash your hair after sweating. Mild soap and gentle washing is important for the first couple of weeks. This will protect the hair follicles and reduce the risk for infections.
