Chiropractic Code of Ethics
The Chiropractic Code of Ethics, which was developed in 1985 by the International Chiropractors Association, consists of principles of professional behavior that are recommended for all doctors and assistants of chiropractic. The guiding principles include the ability to recognize chiropractic's limitations and acknowledge the special skills of other health care professions in the prevention and care of disease.
Duties and Responsibilities to the Patient
The doctor of chiropractic should accessible and available to patients. The doctor of chiropractic must keep records confidential and not disclose patient information to others, regardless of their relation to the patient, without the consent of the patient. The release of any patient medical records must be preceded by a signed consent form from the patient, along with any other legal requirements.
Patient Bill of Rights
The Chiropractic Code of Ethics includes a patient bill of rights that states what the patient can expect and demand in regard to his medical care. Along with this bill of rights are certain patient responsibilities with regard to providing information, financial obligations and following treatment.
