Decorate An Apothecary Jar

Use jelly beans in an apothecary jar as a decoration in your kitchen.

Apothecary jars are the perfect way to dress up many areas in your home. They can be used as accessories in your kitchen, on a bedroom shelf, on a living room mantle or a table. Although decorative apothecary jars are available for purchase, it's easy to make a custom-made one tailored to your personal preferences. Be creative. Depending on the look you are trying to create, there are numerous ways to decorate an apothecary jar.

Instructions

1. Decide which room you want to decorate with an apothecary jar. Decorate the apothecary jar to match the purpose of the room. For example, if you want to use the apothecary on a kitchen shelf, fill it up with different colored pasta.

2. Fill the apothecary jar with food that you can snack on. For example, nuts such as Pistachios, walnuts, peanuts, or cashews make a stunning display in an apothecary jar. Another option is to use transparent candy in vivid colors such as red, green, blue or yellow.

3. Place marbles, decorative rocks, shells or glass beads in a variety of sizes and colors that complement the overall color theme of the room.

4. Fill the apothecary jar with items that match the holiday or season. For example, use candy corn during Halloween or plastic Easter eggs and multicolored grass for Easter. Fill the apothecary jar with red or white rose petals for Valentine's Day. Dress up the apothecary jar during Christmas with metallic ornament balls.

5. Fill the jar with artificial colorful fruits such as limes, pears, grapes, berries, oranges or apples.

6. Make a terrarium in the apothecary jar. Fill the jar with about an inch of gravel or use a bit more depending on how large the jar is. Add 3 inches of soil. Create a miniature landscape in the apothecary jar with plants such as moss, fern, African violets or Oxalis. Place a decorative toy such as a plastic frog, dinosaur or lizard in the apothecary jar if you like.

7. Fill the jar with vintage hardware such as decorative knobs and drawer pulls. Check out flea markets and vintage stores for inexpensive metallic hardware.

8. Add an elegant touch to any room by placing strands of pearl beads in the apothecary jar but allow the beads to drape over the top and down onto the table.
