Drug hypersensitivities are considered to be allergic reactions that may happen to anyone, though it seems to occur more commonly in females than males. Such hypersensitivity or allergic-like reactions may involve the lungs, skin or blood vessels. In many cases, this hypersensitivity is the result of malfunctions of the immune system that causes the body to respond to substances in ways that are unusual or unexpected.Risks of contracting a drug hypersensitivity increase with the use of drugs like penicillin, sulfa medication and by individuals who suffer from asthma, hay fever or eczema.Recognizing and identifying symptoms of a drug hypersensitivity helps individuals alert medical care providers that certain drugs should not be offered.
