Arsenic poisoning is one of the more serious types of poisoning documented throughout history. There are cases of people developing the problem after drinking large amounts of water with arsenic or having a prolonged exposure to arsenic. The majority of those who have suffered from the condition did so because of intentional poisoning. The symptoms of arsenic poisoning usually take effect slowly, but there are early signs to watch for.
Instructions
1. Pay attention to a throbbing headache that comes and goes or any feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness, especially if you think you may have been exposed to arsenic. These two symptoms are the first signs of arsenic poisoning.
2. Watch for any strong stomach pains in the lower part of the stomach around the bowels. Those who suffer from arsenic poisoning usually feel a strong pressure on their lower stomach and the area feels tender to the touch. They may also begin vomiting or feel as if they may vomit.
3. Check the vomit for any blood or vomit that is predominantly green or yellow in color. The vomit may be a brownish color, but have streaks of the other colors or blood in the vomit. This is a sign that the arsenic poisoning has progressed beyond the early stages.
4. Look at the individual’s way of talking--the tone of their voice and their mouth. Those who have arsenic poisoning often exhibit symptoms in the form of a hoarse or rough tone of voice, slurred speech and excessive dry mouth or producing more saliva than they did before.
5. Keep an eye on the sufferer’s urinary habits. Those with arsenic poisoning will visit the bathroom more frequently than they did before, but be unable to urinate. When they do urinate, they often feel a burning sensation or pain.
